Final project, Interview with Mr.Anwer

Traditional games and the values of the traditional games are a critical area when discussing the culture of the given region. These traditional games show how the children have been playing and how they have developed their skills and insights. We had a discussion with Mr. Anwer, who was a resident in UAE and is currently 65 years old. He has told us many things about the traditional games in the region and how people played the game. He started by comparing of the modern days with the past period.

“ Those days were very exciting times and there were many traditional games. Let me mention one by one, so you get to know them. I am sure many of the games you have never even heard of.”

Khosa boss game was one of the most played games amongst the children; they sit at a place and sing a song while pointing at the fingers. When the song ends, the finger, which is being pointed at, has to be closed. Boys and girls played this game alike.

“Then there is the hand game at our household all the members played” he continues, “this was played by our mother father and all the children. We all liked it, and it was so much fun but simple.”

The main feature of these games were that they were very simple to play, and teams can work together to play these games. The games provided much of the leisure for the kids during the free time.

“Oh how our parents hated when we play the Kook Game, he said. We used to hide even in neighbor’s homes so the person who is looking for us cannot find us. Eventually, parents would get complaints when the children are found in places where they should not even go.”

The games were developed over a period and remain very pure. Not many equipment was needed. Mr. Anwer observes that even teenagers were playing games and not only the kids. This games was very helpful at times to develop team spirit and work with the community. If a person does not play, he is not considered as a part of the gang of the kids living in the region and later on when children grow up, they might not even consider such people to be influential members of the community.

The games in a traditional sense reflect the culture and the habits of the population. The traditional games have been developed with the focus on working together and respecting each other. There are rules, and all will respect these rules. The games have been teaching the children about many social values and assist them to become good citizens in the future.

“As a kid I enjoyed life very much; it was an entirely carefree period for me, and I loved it. I don’t think the kids present day have this privilege that I enjoyed as a kid” He says with a sad expression. “They might have a lot of things; but not the simplicity that I enjoyed.”

Reflection

Reflection
I did work in a group, because working in a group is better than working on my own, also the team work is very effective and gives more quality.

I choose (Armed Forces Officers Club) because it is one of the most famous organizations in the city, and it has the biggest facilities in the city.

I decided to collect my information from the workers and employees there, because they have the most knowledge about the organization that they work in.

I found that it is the oldest organization in Abu Dhabi and the biggest one.

Yes it is the same results that I expected, because before I ask the workers there I made a quick search about the organization and I did take some notes to know what I will do there, not randomly.

This organization (Armed Forces Officers Club) are containing in it facilities related to sport like swimming pool, gym, football courts etc; also what is related to leisure like their wedding halls, the hotel and their restaurants.

I need the interviewer skills and the good quality of the camera; these two things will make my case study completed successfully.

Yes, because this organization belongs to the military, and everything we had required did take an action from us to do it.

Nothing except the camera that we used because it is less quality, and we will use a good quality camera to make the result much better.
